FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Builder of the Year honors take place January 25, 2009, Sunday night on stage at the Grand National Roadster Show; Jan. 23-25, Fairplex, Pomona.
Every year the Grand National Roadster Show (GNRS) honors a car builder who consistently excels in the construction of unique, well crafted show cars. The 2009 recipient is Phil and Mary Leatherman’s Extreme Automotive, located in Corona, CA.
Extreme has garnered 17 GNRS Best in Class awards in the last two years alone attesting to the range of cars they build. Additionally, Phil picked up the prestigious “Outstanding Truck” award at the 2007 GNRS.
Started by Phil in 1990 after years in drag racing and oval track racing, Extreme’s 3000 sq. ft. facility and crew of five handle all phases of hot rod and custom car construction from engine building and paint to fabrication and specialty car maintenance.
The 2009 Builder of the Year was announced in March. In September the shop coordinating the 2009 GNRS Build-A-Rod closed. Extreme Automotive offered to take over the project ensuring the roadster built on stage during the show is overseen by one of the leaders in the field.
One of Extreme’s specialties-of-the-house is big motor installations—specifically adapting 600-plus blown or injected Arias marine engines for street applications. Over the years they have performed this set up in many of the hot rods and custom cars.
The GNRS is pleased to add Extreme’s name to the prestigious roster of Builders of the Year. While at the show please stop by their booth located in Building 7.
